A closer look at the campground

Overview Ten Mile Campground is located along the seasonal Ten Mile Creek with a short walk to the Sanpoil River across State Highway 21. The campground is 10 miles south of Republic, WA, lightly used, and is a perfect campground for travelers desiring a quick overnight rest or a week of exploring and relaxing in the wonderful backcountry of Ferry County. Campsites are tucked against wooded slopes, providing shade throughout the afternoon and evening. Beyond the campground are scenic mountains where hiking and mountain biking is popular. Fishing and waterplay in the Sanpoil River are favorite activities, and the Congressionally designated Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail passes through the campground and heads west along the Ten Mile Trail. Recreation The Sanpoil River valley provides campers with opportunities for waterplay, fishing, mountain biking and hiking. Within ten miles, campers can enjoy fishing, swimming and non-motorized boating on Swan, Long, Ferry, and Fish Lakes. Long Lake is a fly fishing only lake. Canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding are among the water sports most popular at these lakes.  Ten Mile hiking/mountain biking trail (2.5 miles) can be accessed directly from the campground and is part of the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail (PNT). Thirteen Mile Trail (16.5 miles) is also part of the PNT and is located three miles south of the campground. Both trails climb up from the Sanpoil River through forested canyon slopes and offer spectacular spring and early summer wildflowers and numerous opportunities for wildlife viewing. Facilities Campsites within this 5-unit campground are pleasant with shade, tables, fire rings, and flat parking spurs with three of the camp units adjacent to seasonal 10 Mile Creek. 10 Mile trailhead is located within the campground and there is a day-use area with parking and picnic tables and access to the Sanpoil River across the street. The campground includes an accessible vault toilet. No potable water or garbage service is available. The campground has a single accessible vault outhouse. Natural Features Steep rocky ridges and slopes provide a beautiful backdrop while Larch and Douglas fir provide lots of shade throughout the day. Ten Mile Creek typically runs through the campground from April through July, going dry as summer progresses. The Sanpoil River, approximately 100 yards east of the campground, provides lots of opportunities for waterplay and fishing. Four lakes within ten miles of the campground provide opportunities for bird and wildlife watching, fishing, non-motorized watercraft, and swimming. Nearby Attractions Sanpoil River - water play and fishing - is across State Highway 21 from the Campground. 10 Mile Trail starts within the Campground, and 13 Mile Trail is located three miles south on State Highway 21. Swan, Long, Ferry, and Fish Lakes are located 10 miles northwest of the Campground and are popular for fishing, non-motorized watercraft, swimming and picnicking. The Stonerose Interpretive Center & Eocene Fossil Site is located 10 miles north on State Highway 21 within the City of Republic. Stonerose is a family-friendly museum and dig site where families can often take home their very own fossil. Numerous backpacking and mountain biking opportunities are available along the Kettle Crest, located 15 miles east of Republic, WA.
